TREE PORTRAITS

2008

The Tree Portraits series depict urban trees in various barrios (neighborhoods) of Buenos Aires. Each photograph is composed formally, with the subject centered, mimicking a portrait of a person.

"I treat each tree as an individual, centering them in the composition as I would a person. The tree is the protagonist. I am intrigued by how each one has a personality of its own. An expression conveyed through its size, build, ‘posture’; the ‘attitude’ expressed through the display of its branches".—Emma Livingston

The artist brings to our attention the relationship of each tree to its surroundings, including the base it stands in, the wall that forms a backdrop, the sidewalk and road curb.
