We are delighted to update a previous NewsBlog post, with the news that gallery artist, Kimberly Witham, has been awarded the 2018 Clarence John Laughlin Award.

“I am honored to be selected as the recipient of the 2018 Clarence John Laughlin award.  As I look at the incredible and moving work made by the other finalists, I can’t quite believe my good fortune.  Receiving the grant allows me to continue work on a new project and to prepare photos for upcoming exhibitions.  Finally, and most importantly, it provides validation for many hours spent working alone in the studio.  As an artist, it is fulfilling to know my work is appreciated by others. Thank you to the Photo Alliance and juror Marcela Correa”.—Kimberly Witham.

The Clarence John Laughlin Award was created by the New Orleans Photo Alliance to support the work of photographers who use the medium as a means of creative expression. It honors the life and work of Clarence John Laughlin (1905-1985). The 2018 award was juried by Marcela Correa, an independent curator based in New Orleans, and provides the awardee with a $5,000 cash prize.
