SALILAH SAADIQ — FALSE DEPICTION
Inspired by David Bornfriend’s vibrantly stunning visuals for the movie, Moonlight (2016), I was moved to create a series that explores Black men in opposition to their societal labels. All too often, society puts Black men in a box; expecting them to 'be hard', don a tough facade. In this series, it was my hope to offer space for men of color to BREATHE and to BE; away from the darkest moments of beasts or modes of being villianized. This series offers a turning point that depicts the courageous beauty of a Black man’s vulnerability.
